Listening and Reading: correct answers for each level
Each section has 38 questions. CELPIP adjusts every test form for its difficulty, so the ranges overlap: 33 correct in Listening can be level 8 on one form and level 9 on another.

Writing and Speaking: how they are rated
There is no answer count. Trained raters judge each response on four categories, and your level for the skill comes from those ratings.
- Content and coherence
- How many ideas you give, how good they are, how you organise them and the examples you use.
- Vocabulary
- How precise, varied and suitable your words and phrases are.
- Readability or listenability
- Writing: paragraphs, connectors, grammar, spelling. Speaking: rhythm, pronunciation, pauses, grammar.
- Task fulfillment
- Whether you answer every part of the task, in a suitable tone and at a suitable length.

How many correct answers do I need for CELPIP 9?
About 33–35 out of 38 in Listening and 31–33 out of 38 in Reading, on CELPIP's approximate chart. For CELPIP 7, it is about 27–31 in Listening and 24–28 in Reading. The exact cut-off depends on the test form.
Is a CELPIP level the same as a CLB level?
Yes. CELPIP levels 3 to 12 equal CLB levels 3 to 12, skill by skill, which is how IRCC reads CELPIP-General results for Express Entry and citizenship.
How accurate is this chart?
The ranges are the approximate ones CELPIP publishes, so your official level can differ. TargetCLB practice tests score Listening and Reading with the same bands and label every result as an estimate.
